About Tuoshan Grottoes

Tuoshan, or Camel Mountain, rises south-west of Qingzhou and carries five main grottoes with 638 Buddhist statues, carved from the Northern Zhou to the Tang along the mountain's eastern edge near the summit. The grottoes are protected by cages and the tallest figure, a seated Buddha, is over 7 m high, while the summit has Haotian Temple, a group of old buildings with a theatre, a Yuhuang hall and a Yuan-dynasty stone hall without beams. It is one of the larger groups of cliff-carved Buddhist images in Shandong and pairs well with Yunmen Mountain nearby.

How to get to Tuoshan Grottoes

About 5 km south-west of central Qingzhou, with the grottoes on the eastern side of the mountain near the summit, reached by road.
