About Yuan Dynasty Water Gate Museum

A museum built over a Yuan-dynasty stone sluice gate found during building work at Zhidan Road in the early 2000s, one of six gates built around 1325 under the hydraulic engineer and painter Ren Renfa to control the silting Wusong River. The gate floor, about 42 m long, with its posts and walls laid on a dense bed of numbered timber piles, lies more than 7 m below street level and is seen from a glass walkway inside the hall; the find was named one of China's top ten archaeological discoveries of 2006.
