About Pingyao Market Tower (Shilou)
A three-eaved timber tower, 18.5 m high, that stands over South Street in the middle of Pingyao Ancient City, with a roof of yellow and green glazed tiles. A passage runs north to south through its square base, and the well just south of it, with water the colour of gold, gives the tower its other name, the Golden Well Tower. It was repaired in 1688 and several times since.
