About Lotus Hill (Lianhuashan)
Lotus Hill is a low hill on the Shiziyang channel of the Pearl River that was quarried for stone from the Western Han to the mid-19th century, leaving sheer cliffs, stone pillars, caves and pools now protected as an ancient quarry site. Paths lead up to the Lotus Pagoda, a nine-storey brick tower of 1612 that once guided ships into the river, and to a large gilded bronze statue of Guanyin erected in 1994 facing the water.
