About Yuejiang Tower

A seven-storey tower in Ming style on Lion Hill in north-western Nanjing, completed in 2001 to realise a building that the Hongwu Emperor ordered in 1374 but never finished, and which was known for six centuries only through essays such as Song Lian's 'Record of Yuejiang Tower'. From the top there are views north over the Yangtze and south over the city, and inside are murals including scenes of Zheng He's voyages. Lion Hill, inside the Ming city wall near Yijiang Gate, also has old caves said to have hidden troops.
