About Moorish Barracks
Built in 1874 (Quartel dos Mouros) to house an Indian regiment from Goa that reinforced the Macau police, this neoclassical building adds Islamic and Mughal touches: a raised granite platform and four-metre-wide verandas with pointed arches. Designed by the engineer António Alexandrino de Melo, it has housed the harbour authority since 1905 and is now the headquarters of the Marine and Water Bureau. It is part of the Historic Centre of Macau, at the foot of Barra Hill.
How to get to Moorish Barracks
On Calçada da Barra, about 0.5 km north-east of Barra LRT station and 0.2 km north-east of A-Ma Temple. Only the exterior can be seen; the tourism office's page notes a temporary closure of the building and its veranda for construction works.
