About Mandarin's House
The family home (Casa do Mandarim) of the reformist writer Zheng Guanying (1842–1921), dating from about 1869 and covering about 4,000 square metres beside Lilau Square. A gatehouse, courtyards and master's and servants' quarters stretch more than 120 metres along Barra Street, Chinese in style with western touches such as arched plasterwork over doors and mother-of-pearl window panes. The compound, part of the Historic Centre of Macau, also houses the Zheng Guanying Memorial Museum on his life and the history of the house.
