About Nanjie Village

A village on the southern edge of Linying town, widely described as China's last Maoist village, which collectivised its farming and industry in 1986; a statue of Mao Zedong flanked by portraits of Engels and Lenin stands on its main square, and images of Marx and Stalin appear around the village. Its village-run food factories, best known for instant noodles, have paid for housing and welfare, and the model has drawn both praise and scepticism in the Chinese press. It receives many domestic red-tourism visitors.
