About Wanshou Pagoda

Wanshou Pagoda is a seven-storey octagonal brick-and-stone tower 40.46 m high, built between 1548 and 1552 for Prince Zhu Xian of Liao to pray for the Jiajing Emperor's long life. It stands on the Jingjiang embankment at Guanyinji, a rocky spur jutting into the Yangtze, and its lowest storey is now buried below the raised dike. Wanshou Park around it also has a 1998 flood memorial pavilion and carved marks of the high-water levels of 1954 and 1998.
