About Jingzhou Ancient City
Jingzhou's old town is enclosed by a brick-faced rampart about 8.8 m high, rebuilt in 1646 on Ming foundations and regarded as one of the best-preserved city walls in southern China. Gate towers such as Binyang Tower on the east side mark the old gates, and the old town also holds the Jingzhou Museum, Taoist temples and shrines to the Three Kingdoms general Guan Yu. The area is tied to Three Kingdoms stories such as Liu Bei 'borrowing' Jingzhou and Guan Yu's defeat here, and the wall is on China's tentative World Heritage list.
