About Huangze Temple
Huangze Temple, at the foot of Wulong Mountain on the west bank of the Jialing River, is described as the only temple in China dedicated to Wu Zetian, the Tang empress who by tradition was born in Guangyuan. Its cliff holds about 1,200 Buddhist sculptures in six caves and dozens of niches, begun in the sixth century and mostly carved in the Tang, while the halls display a stone figure traditionally said to show the empress herself. The temple now also serves as a museum.
