About Tuancheng Fortress

Built in the late 1740s for the Qianlong Emperor's Jianrui Brigade, an elite unit trained to storm stone watchtowers like those it met in the Jinchuan campaigns, this is the only Qing military review ground left in Beijing. It comprises the oval walled Tuancheng with gate towers, the review hall where the emperor watched drills, a tall gate used for scaling-ladder practice and a stele pavilion, and it holds an exhibition on the brigade's history.
