About Guangzhou Martyrs' Memorial Garden

Laid out in 1954–57 as a memorial park for those killed in the Communist-led Guangzhou Uprising of December 1927, the garden holds the communal tomb of the uprising dead, pavilions commemorating Chinese–Korean and Chinese–Soviet solidarity, and the Tomb of the Four Martyrs of Honghuagang from the 1911 revolution. Within its grounds stands the former Guangdong Provincial Assembly building of the late Qing, where Guangdong declared independence from the Qing in November 1911 and Sun Yat-sen was sworn in as Extraordinary President in 1921. That building now houses the Guangdong Museum of Revolutionary History, also called the Guangzhou Museum of Modern History.
