About Yang Pass
The site of Yangguan, the southern of the two Han dynasty frontier passes west of Dunhuang, fortified around 120 BC to guard the southern Silk Road route to the Western Regions; the fort had fallen into ruin by about AD 900. The scenic area has the Yangguan Museum next to the site, and the pass is remembered through Wang Wei's Tang poem of parting, which made 'west of Yang Pass' a byword for leaving old friends behind.
How to get to Yang Pass
About 60 km south-west of Dunhuang, roughly an hour by road; it is run together with Yumen Pass as the Yangguan–Yumenguan tourism area.
