About Dratang Monastery
A monastery founded in 1081 by the scholar and physician Drapa Ngönshé and finished in 1093, built as a mandala with three rings of walls; it passed to the Sakya school in the 13th century. Only the ground floor of the main hall and parts of the outer wall survive, but its central chapel keeps early murals that have been conserved since the 1990s.
