About Yongtai Temple
A Buddhist nunnery on the western side of Mount Song, founded in 521 and, by local tradition, named after Princess Yongtai, a sister of the Northern Wei emperor who became a nun here; most of its halls are modern rebuilds. Its chief monument is the Tang-dynasty Yongtai Temple Pagoda, an eleven-tiered square brick pagoda about 24 m tall, joined by a small Jin pagoda of 1209 and a Ming lama-style pagoda of 1638.
