About Red Rock Village (Hongyan) Revolutionary Memorial

The hillside compound by the Jialing River where the Chinese Communist Party's Southern Bureau and the Eighth Route Army's Chongqing liaison office worked from 1939 until early 1947, during the wartime alliance with the Nationalist government. Zhou Enlai lived and worked here, and Mao Zedong stayed for 41 days during the 1945 Chongqing negotiations; the office building, which looks two-storeyed from outside but has three floors, keeps their offices, bedrooms and the secret radio room. A memorial hall completed beside it in 2000 covers the bureau's history, and the protected site also includes the Zengjiayan 50 residence and the former Xinhua Daily sales office in central Yuzhong.
