About Qingshuitang (Former Site of the CCP Xiang District Committee)

From late 1921 to April 1923 this small southern-style house at 22 Qingshuitang was the secret office of the Communist Party's Xiang (Hunan) District Committee, with Mao Zedong as secretary, and the home of Mao and Yang Kaihui, whose rooms are furnished as they were. It was the only building linked to the Party's early history in Changsha to survive the great fire of 1938, and it now stands in the grounds of the Changsha Party History Museum beside the ponds that gave Qingshuitang its name, with a statue of Mao put up in 1969.
