About Cape D'Aguilar Lighthouse

Put into service in April 1875, this is the oldest surviving lighthouse in Hong Kong, a 9.7-metre round granite tower with a rusticated base and an arched doorway closed by an iron door. It was taken out of service in 1896 after Waglan Island Lighthouse opened, and its lantern was re-lit and automated in 1975. It stands on the south-east shore of Hong Kong Island, at the end of the Cape D'Aguilar peninsula.

How to get to Cape D'Aguilar Lighthouse

Only the exterior can be seen, as the Marine Department still runs the lighthouse and it is not open to the public. It stands at the end of the Cape D'Aguilar peninsula, about 2.5 km south-south-east of Shek O village; bus route 9 runs from Shau Kei Wan MTR station to Shek O.
