About Huguang Guild Hall

A guild hall for officials from Hunan and Hubei, built in 1807 and given its galleried opera theatre in 1830, where Sun Yat-sen spoke at the founding meeting of the Kuomintang in August 1912. The richly painted theatre still stages Peking opera, and the complex has housed a small museum of Peking opera history; it reopened in January 2024 after renovation.
