About Ancient Lotus Pond

A walled garden of ponds, bridges, pavilions and towers in the centre of Baoding, begun in the 13th century as a private garden and rebuilt in the Ming dynasty. In the Qing it became the site of the Lotus Pond Academy and was used by the Qianlong, Jiaqing and Guangxu emperors as a travelling palace. It gave its name to Baoding's Lianchi District and now operates as the Lianchi Academy Museum, with many inscribed steles.
