About Mudanjiang

Mudanjiang, named after the Mudan River, is the rail hub of south-east Heilongjiang. Jingpo Lake, a long mountain lake dammed by lava some 10,000 years ago, is its main sight, and at Shangjing Longquanfu lie the remains of the capital of the Bohai kingdom, destroyed by the Khitan in 926. The Russian-built railway to Suifenhe on the border passes Hengdaohezi Russian Town, and China Snow Town, deep in the forest, is one of China's best-known snow destinations.
