About Handan

Handan was capital of the state of Zhao for 158 years from 386 BC, and Chinese idioms such as learning to walk in Handan, for clumsy imitation, are credited to the city. To the south-west, the Xiangtangshan Caves were carved for Northern Qi rulers in the sixth century, and many of their sculptures now sit in museums abroad. Guangfu Ancient City, walled and moated, is where Yang and Wu tai chi began, and the Nüwa Palace honours the goddess said to have made humankind.
