Arcaded old streets, a field of volcanoes and Hainan's northern port

About Haikou
Haikou, capital of Hainan since the province was created in 1988, is a port at the mouth of the Nandu River, facing the Qiongzhou Strait. Haikou Qilou Old Street holds more than 600 arcaded shophouses, built from the mid-nineteenth century by Hainanese who had traded in South-East Asia. South-west of the centre, the Haikou Volcanic Cluster Global Geopark spreads over more than 40 volcanoes, and the Tomb of Hai Rui honours the Ming official remembered for his honesty.
