Meizhou 梅州Méizhōu
Round earthen fortresses, mountain songs and tea on the Hakka hills

About Meizhou
Meizhou calls itself the world capital of the Hakka, and linguists treat its Meixian dialect as the standard form of the Hakka language. Hakka clans built earthen houses here such as the round Hua'e Lou of 1608 and the square Tai'an Lou, tea terraces climb the hills at Yannanfei Tea Field, and two cypresses, one living and one dead, stand before Lingguang Temple. Wuhua was the ancestral home of Lee Wai Tong, who led China's footballers at the 1936 Olympics.
