About Qinglongdong Ancient Architectural Complex

Qinglongdong (Qinglong Cave) is a group of Buddhist, Daoist and Confucian buildings built into a cliff of Zhonghe Mountain above the Wuyang River at the eastern end of Zhenyuan's old town, begun in 1388 and taking its present form by the early Qing. Its roughly 40 buildings include the cave temple itself, the former Ziyang academy, the Zhongyuan Buddhist hall high on the cliff, Wanshou Palace, a three-courtyard hall with an opera stage, and the seven-arch Zhusheng Bridge, topped by a three-storey pavilion, which carries the old post road across the river. Heritage records describe it as a blend of south-western minority and central Chinese Han building traditions, and it has been a national protected site since 1988.
