About Changping Guandi Temple

The Guan family temple stands in Changping village, the village held to be Guan Yu's birthplace, on the site of his former home. Beyond a Ming stone arch of 1523 inscribed 'Home Village of King Guan' the path passes the eight-sided, seven-storey brick Ancestral House Pagoda, about 10 m high and repaired in 1177, and reaches the Qing-dynasty Chongning Hall, flanked by separate halls for Guan Yu's wife, his sons and his ancestors, a layout that is rare among temples to him. It is a separate site from the larger Guandi temple at Xiezhou, with its own entrance.
