About Guanyin Pavilion, Yongsheng

Guanyin Pavilion, also called Lingyuan Guanyin Temple, sits beneath a cliff above the Lingyuan stream on the eastern edge of Yongsheng county town. Its hall, rebuilt in 1876 with marble balustrades and carved wooden screens, encloses a 1.78-metre image of Guanyin carved into the rock face. The carving is inscribed as after the Tang painter Wu Daozi, a design said to have reached Yongsheng in the Dali Kingdom period with Buddhist scriptures brought back from the Chinese interior.
