About Hongji Bridge

A Ming-dynasty stone arch bridge over the Fuyang River at Dongqiao village, with a single main arch spanning 31.88 m and open spandrels, similar in form to the Zhaozhou Bridge. The deck is 48.9 m long and 6.82 m wide, the arch is made of 18 parallel rings bound with iron cramps, and the arch faces and balustrades are carved with dragons, a phoenix, a flying horse, lions and monkeys. An inscription on the central balustrade is dated to the tenth year of the Wanli reign (1582).
