About Nanxi River Ancestral Halls

A protected group of Ming and Qing clan halls spread across villages of the Nanxi River valley in Yongjia. One of them, the Yongjia Commandery Hall in Shangcun, Bilian town, began as the Liu clan hall of the forebears of the Ming statesman Liu Ji and has an imperial-edict pavilion, gatehouse, opera stage, galleries and main hall arranged around courtyards. The others include Xiaosi Hall at Shatou and the main halls of the Zheng, Xie, Ye, Shao, Ji and Chen clans in other villages.

How to get to Nanxi River Ancestral Halls

Shangcun is in Bilian town, about 35 km north of Wenzhou; the halls are in scattered villages, so a car is needed.
