About Yan'an Revolutionary Sites

The compounds where the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee lived and worked while it was based in Yan'an from January 1937 to March 1947 are spread across the city: the cave dwellings, offices and assembly halls of Yangjialing, where the party's Seventh National Congress met in 1945, Zaoyuan (Date Garden), Wangjiaping, Fenghuang Hill and the former Northwest Bureau. The Yan'an Revolutionary Memorial Hall at Wangjiaping, founded in 1950 and reopened in a new building in 2009, displays documents, photographs and relics from those years. On Pagoda Hill (Baota Shan) above the city stands a nine-storey Ming-dynasty brick pagoda, about 44 m tall, which became a symbol of Yan'an and of the Communist revolution.
