About Tomb of Xu Guangqi

The grave of Xu Guangqi (1562–1633), the late-Ming official and scholar who translated Euclid's Elements into Chinese with the Jesuit Matteo Ricci and was a leading figure among the Chinese Catholics of his time, buried here with members of his family in 1641. The low oval mound, rebuilt in 2003 to its 1903 form, stands in Guangqi Park near the creek junction where his descendants settled, which gave Xujiahui, the 'Xu family junction', its name.
