About St. Ignatius Cathedral

The twin-towered Gothic Revival cathedral of Xujiahui, designed by William Doyle and built by French Jesuits between 1906 and 1910 at the heart of the old Zikawei mission, and the seat of the Bishop of Shanghai since 1960. Badly damaged during the Cultural Revolution, it returned to religious use in 1979 and reopened in December 2017 after a restoration of its stonework, windows and floors that took two and a half years.
