About Shien Temple
A Buddhist temple in the old town of Xuanhua whose main hall, completed in 1470 under the Ming dynasty, is the city's oldest surviving timber building and its only one with a hip roof. The hall has five bays under a single-eaved roof and a Qing-era porch at the front, while the gate, side halls and monks' quarters around it were rebuilt between 2005 and 2014 after the rest of the temple had disappeared. It is an active temple, a short walk west of the Zhenshuo (drum) Tower.
