About Tang Altar of Heaven (Tiantan Heritage Park)

This round earthen altar of four tiers, finished in white lime plaster and climbed by twelve evenly spaced stairways on each tier, is where the emperors of the Sui and Tang dynasties made sacrifices to Heaven south of their capital, Chang'an. Excavated in 1999, it lay beside a university sports ground until a small heritage park was laid out around it and opened in 2018.
