About Duling, Tomb of Emperor Xuan of Han

The mausoleum of the Western Han emperor Xuan, begun in 65 BC on the plateau south-east of Xi'an and used for his burial in 48 BC: a flat-topped pyramid of rammed earth about 29 m high, with the smaller mound of Empress Wang some 575 m to the south-east. The mounds stand in a planted forest park, the Shanglinyuan (Duling) eco-scenic area, where a tree-lined avenue leads to stelae, including the national heritage marker, in a railed enclosure at the foot of the emperor's mound.
