About Chengcun Han City Site (Minyue King City)

On the hills south-west of Chengcun village lie the ruins of an early Han-dynasty walled city, regarded as the largest and best-preserved of its period in southern China and often attributed to the Minyue kingdom that the Han conquered in 110 BC. Excavations since 1980 have exposed walls, gates, a water gate, palace and temple platforms, roads and wells over some 48 hectares, and the Minyue King City Museum beside the site displays the finds. The site is part of the Mount Wuyi World Heritage property, and Chengcun itself is a historic village with Ming and Qing houses.
