About Yuantouzhu
A rocky headland on the north shore of Lake Tai shaped like a turtle's head, developed from 1916 by Wuxi businessmen with lakeside villas and gardens and now a large park of wooded hills, pavilions, rock inscriptions and wide lake views. It is best known for its cherry trees, first planted by the Changchun Bridge causeway in 1936 and greatly extended with trees planted by Japanese visitors since 1988, which draw big crowds when they bloom in spring. Boats run from the park's pier to Taihu Xiandao, a group of small islands built up with Taoist-style buildings since the 1990s.
