About Guangji Temple, Wuhu
A Buddhist temple on the south-western slope of Zheshan hill in central Wuhu, founded in the 890s and long called 'Little Jiuhua' because pilgrims bound for Mount Jiuhua stopped here first to venerate a gold seal of the bodhisattva Dizang said to date from 757. Its oldest structure is the Zheta Pagoda behind the halls, a five-storey hexagonal brick pagoda of 1065, 28 m high, with a seated Dizang inside; most halls are recent rebuilds stepped up the slope in imitation of Jiuhua.
