Fangci Town in Weifang's Fangzi district grew from 1898 as a railway and coal-mining town under German and then Japanese control. It keeps 166 German and Japanese buildings in a core area of 1.97 sq km, together with the 1902 railway station, the former German military headquarters, a locomotive turntable and a coal-mine site, now mixed with art spaces, shops and cafés.
