About Site of the Xilin Incident

A restored old building and stone-paved courtyard on Dongxin Street in Ding'an, which was the seat of Xilin County in the 1850s. Here, in February 1856, the county magistrate had the French Catholic missionary Auguste Chapdelaine tried and executed, together with two Chinese Catholics, on charges that included preaching outside the treaty ports; France cited his death when it joined Britain in the Second Opium War.

How to get to Site of the Xilin Incident

In Ding'an town in the far west of Tianlin County, about 25 km east of the Cen family buildings at Nalao, and a long drive from Baise. Check locally that the building is open before going.
