About Tangshan Nanhu and Kailuan Scenic Area
Two linked parks in the middle of Tangshan: Nanhu, a lake park of nine lakes and five islands laid out on ground that sank after a century of coal mining, and the Kailuan National Mining Park beside it. The mining park has the Kailuan Museum, the zero-kilometre marker of China's first standard-gauge railway, a railway museum with a full-size replica of the 'Dragon' locomotive and an old mine shaft toured in miner's gear; its nationally protected core is the 1878 mine shaft, the railway's starting point and the Dadao road-rail underpass. Nanhu is for walking and cycling round the water, with a light-and-water show in the evening.
How to get to Tangshan Nanhu and Kailuan Scenic Area
Nanhu is in the south of central Tangshan (Lunan District), about 4 km south-west of the city's centre point, and the Kailuan mining park lies about 4 km to the north-east. The Kailuan Museum is closed on Mondays except public holidays.
