About Yunmen Temple
Founded in 923 by the Chan master Wenyan, Yunmen Temple is the birthplace of the Yunmen school, one of the five houses of Chan (Zen) Buddhism. Most of its present halls were rebuilt under the monk Xuyun between 1943 and 1951 in traditional Qing style, and the temple keeps a Southern Han stele of the 10th century honouring its founder. Around it, the Yunmen Mountain eco-cultural tourism area adds a water park, go-karts and a Guoshan Yao village.
