About Friendship Pass
Friendship Pass is the historic gateway on the China–Vietnam border south-west of Pingxiang, known as Zhennan Pass until 1953 and given its present name in 1965. The four-storey, 22 m gate tower holds exhibitions on the pass's history, Ming-dynasty walls climb the hills on either side, which carry old gun batteries such as the group on Jinji Shan, and a colonnaded French-style building of 1896, remodelled in 1914, once housed the border affairs office. The pass saw the 1885 Battle of Zhennan Pass in the Sino-French War.
