About Liao Pagoda, Nong'an

A 13-storey octagonal brick pagoda of the Liao dynasty, about 44 m high, standing in the middle of Nong'an town. It began as Longan Pagoda beside the Huanglongfu temple and was used to hold the remains of monks; it was repaired in 1953 and again from 1985, when its original form was restored, and bronze and silver Buddhist objects found inside in 1953 are now in the Jilin Provincial Museum. Nong'an occupies the site of Huanglongfu, a Liao and Jin regional centre, and the pagoda is the town's main landmark from that period.
