About Military Club Building

A one-storey neoclassical building of the early 1870s on Avenida da Praia Grande, the clubhouse of the Military Club that Portuguese officers founded in 1870. The pink façade has a Tuscan colonnade, a balustrade and a curved gable carrying the date 1870 and the words Clube Militar, and only the façade survives from the original after the rebuilding of 1994–95. The club still occupies the building, so most visitors see the exterior from the avenue.
