About Former Kwantung Prefectural Office
Russia built this two-storey European-style building in 1900 as Lüshun's municipal hotel; after the Russo-Japanese War it housed Japan's Kwantung Government-General and later the Kwantung Agency and the Kwantung Prefectural Office, which moved to Dalian in 1937. It then served as a teachers' school, a Soviet building and, from 1955, a People's Liberation Army club and the quarters of its ski team, and it has stood largely vacant since the late 1990s. It was listed as a national heritage unit in 2013, and restoration work was reported under way in 2025.
