About Luding Bridge

Luding Bridge is an iron-chain suspension bridge spanning about 100 metres across the Dadu River in Luding town, built in 1705–1706 on the orders of the Kangxi Emperor as a key crossing on the road between Sichuan and Tibet. In May 1935, during the Long March, Red Army troops captured the bridge, an episode known in China as the 'Seizing of Luding Bridge'. Visitors can walk across its swaying plank deck, and a memorial hall nearby presents the history of the crossing.
