About Xiandu Scenic Area

A valley of rock peaks along the Lianxi stretch of the Haoxi River north-east of Jinyun town, named "capital of immortals" by the Tang emperor Xuanzong; its emblem is Dinghu Peak, a 170.8 m stone pillar shaped like a bamboo shoot, from which the Yellow Emperor is said to have ascended to heaven. Riverside paths link Dinghu Peak, Little Red Cliff, the Xiandu Taoist temple, Niweng Cave and Zhutan Hill, and the cliffs and caves along the way, most densely around Niweng Cave, carry 123 inscriptions from the Tang to modern times, including work by Li Yangbing, Zhao Bian and Shen Kuo. Ceremonies honouring the Yellow Emperor are held here at Qingming and the Double Ninth festival.
