The five-A scenic area at the heart of Jinan's old town, made up of Baotu Spring Park, the Five Dragon Pool, the old-city moat and its Huancheng Park, and Daming Lake, with Baotu, Black Tiger and Five Dragon Pool as the three spring groups. Baotu Spring, which the Qianlong Emperor named 'First Spring under Heaven', is the best known of the city's 72 named springs, and a boat trip along the moat leads on to Daming Lake. Inside Baotu Spring Park, Wanzhuyuan is a courtyard house of 13 courtyards with spring pools and carved stone, wood and brick, built in the early twentieth century for the Beiyang general Zhang Huaizhi and now part of the park.

In the heart of central Jinan: Baotu Spring is about 0.6 km west of Quancheng Square, the moat runs from it round the old town, and Daming Lake lies about 1.5 km north of the square.
